Exploring the Berner Oberland

After our local church woke us with it's tolling bells we had a leisurely breakfast and tried to decide what our plan would be for the day. As the weather was a bit cloudy we decided to check out the other side of the valley. First stop Lauterbrunnen and a 45 min (3km) stroll to Trummelbach Falls. The falls thundered down inside the mountain carving out caves as the water went rushing past. Very spectacular and a bit misty.

We then caught the Post Bus to Stechelberg where we took a cable car to Gimmelwald. This was the perfect stop for a patio lunch with a mountain view.

After lunch we took the cable car to Murren where we stumbled accross a group practicing their swiss alpine horns. Hopefully they have a few more practice sessions before they serenade us on our marathon run Saturday.

After a quick stroll through the main street we made our way to the train station and headed back to Lauterbrunnen via train and cable car. Back to Wengen and a stop at the Co-op to pick up supplies for dinner. Mary was on deck for cooking tonight and pasta was again on the menu. Dessert was Swiss chocolate, cocoa nut liqueur and baily's. Carol and Larry decided to try one of the resturants in town and had a great meal at the usual swiss exorbitant prices. Time for bed - to be continued...
