Great marathon with Carol, Sue, Lorraine and Mary. Sue and Lorraine were smart and ran the half marathon - they managed to finish while the weather was still nice.
Carol and Mary couldn't leave well enough alone and just had to run the full marathon - we shared the road with the half-er's until km 19 and then we had to make our suddenly lonely way up the road through the back half of the run. There was some really beautiful scenery. Mary felt a lot of deja vu for the first half as we were closely pursued by the Icelandic "strawberry cart" - there was a whole crew of guys pushing three participants in big wheel chairs.
The final 6km was cruel - the weather got nasty and windy and we had to head out onto the lovely exposed peninsula. It was a great day if you managed to finish the race in four hours or less .... we didn't ... so we got to enjoy 45 minutes of cold and wet.
We did enjoy all the celebrations for Reykjavik "Culture" night (thousands of folks milling about watching dj's and karaoke stars performing in the streets).
